Article Submission

We welcome article submission. The following is our editorial guideline:

"It is our editorial policy to publish articles and correspondence of interest to the emergency dispatch community. Content may cover such topics as caller interrogations, pre-arrival instructions, legislative and legal developments, personalities, protocols, and other topics of general interest. Submissions for publication, including articles, essays, guest comments, and letters to the editor should be sent electronically on disk or via email in Microsoft Word, rich text, or plain text format and are subject to editing."

All submitted articles will be considered for publication. You are welcome to work out details of publication with KGB Media, or through the Academy. If you have a topic you would like to see addressed in the journal we will also be happy to consider all suggestions for future articles.

General Publication Information

This Journal is the official quarterly publication of the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch (NAED), a non-profit standard-setting organization promoting safe and effective emergency dispatch services world-wide. Comprised of three allied Academies for medical, fire and police dispatching, the NAED supports first-responder related research, unified protocol application, legislation for emergency call center regulation, and strengthening the emergency dispatch community through education, certification, and accreditation.

General NAED membership, which includes a subscription, is available for $19 annually, $35 for two years, or $49 for three years. Non-member subscriptions are available for $25 annually. By meeting certain requirements certified membership is provided for qualified individual applicants. Accreditation as a "Center of Excellence" is also available to dispatch agencies that comply with Academy standards.

Organization Profile

The National Academies of Emergency Dispatch encompasses the world's leading certification and standard-setting bodies for emergency dispatch. It is made up of individual academies for EMD, fire and police with a common College of Fellows composed of the leading practitioners, educators, researchers and leaders in the field. Experts and volunteers support the Academies in committees focused on curriculum, standards, research, accreditation, and certification. The non-profit organization was founded in 1988 by Dr. Jeff Clawson, inventor of the Medical Priority Dispatch System.

Membership Profile

All currently certified members of the Academies receive the publication. This includes managers of accredited centers, certified executive members, managers of centers licensed to use a Priority Dispatch System (EMD, fire or police), emergency dispatch instructors, those certified through Quality Assurance programs, certified emergency dispatchers and those certified in the basic telecommunications course. There are approximately 30,000 currently certified members in 15 countries.

Publication Profile

The National Journal of Emergency Dispatch is the official quarterly journal of the association, mailed to all members. It provides continuing dispatch education.
