NAED and NENA Sign Statement of Alliance Leading 9-1-1 Organizations
Pledge Synergistic Support
[SALT LAKE CITY, UT] The National Academies of Emergency Dispatch (NAED) and the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) this month signed a formal "Statement of Alliance" to work together toward the standardization and improvement of 9-1-1 emergency telecommunications. This may include the development of standards, training programs, technology improvements, and best practices. The announcement was made public on May 1st at the NAED's "Navigator" emergency dispatch management conference at the Hyatt Regency Orange County, near Anaheim, California. A record number of more than 700 people were in attendance at the conference. Sharing resources strengthens both organizations. Terry Peters, executive director for NENA, expressed that this new alliance represents the culmination of several years of discussions. Robert Martin, executive director for NAED, added that, "NENA's experience with governmental affairs and fostering local chapter leadership in 9-1-1 technology is a perfect pairing with the NAED's excellent reputation for quality training, certification, and protocol development." The text of the Statement of Alliance follows.
